3 top tips for getting pregnant
Oct 8th
Here are 3 great tips to increase your chances of getting pregnant:
1. Learn your ovulation cycle and have sex around the time of ovulation as much as possible to boost your chances of getting pregnant. You can use an ovulation testing kit to work out when you ovulate. The best type of ovulation kits are the saliva testing kits, as they are cheap and can be re-used many, many times.
2. Take pre-natal vitamins to boost your fertility. It’s amazing how many women aren’t getting everything they need in their diet to ensure they can carry a healthy child. Taking pre-natal vitamins can and cutting junk food and alchohol from your diet will boost your chances of conceiving.
3. Laying down after intercourse with your legs raised slighty (on a pillow for instance) will boost your chances of getting pregnant by providing sperm with a helping hand, in the form of gravity. This will help the sperm to travel to the egg faster, in the same way that cycling down a hill is easier and quicker than going uphill!

Cutting out foods to help you conceive a girl? Think again!
Sep 21st
Recently we’ve heard of a worrying trend amongst some women trying to conceive a boy, whereby they cut out eating dairy products. This stems from the belief that eating dairy products will increase your chances of conceiving a girl, so therefore the opposite must be true, that if you cut out eating dairy products completely, it should increase your chances of conceiving a boy.
This is a crazy way of trying to conceive a boy – the whole point of adjusting your diet is to include foods that will help you conceive a baby of a particular gender. Cutting out foods that help you conceive the gender you ‘don’t want’ can be downright dangerous, especially when we’re talking about something as important as dairy products, which provide essential calcium and fats required by your body.
Cutting out groups of foods from your diet is never a good idea in general, whether you’re trying to conceive or not, but in the case of pregnancy, it makes it harder to conceive as you could actually be starving your body of nutrients vital for conceiving and growing a baby. Even if you do manage to conceive, then you could have damaged your health, and harmed the development of the baby.
Please think carefully about your diet, and by all means eat the foods which will help you conceive the baby gender you want. But cutting out an entire group of foods products is just a bad idea.

Conceiving a girl using a gender selection clinic – should it be legal?
Sep 16th
We’ve been doing some research on gender selection clinics and found something interesting. Gender selection using PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) is actually illegal in the United Kingdom, for social reasons (i.e. just wanting to have a baby of a particular sex). However, it is legal for medical reasons (for example having a baby of a particular sex might result in it being handicapped, but a baby of the other sex has a much lower chance of being handicapped).
This raises an interesting debate – do you think that choosing the gender of your baby by paying for PGD at a clinic should be legal or not? Or should it only be allowed in a minority of cases, for example for medical reasons?
